Vancouver, BC (December 6, 2011) – Lesley Stowe Fine Foods, known for its premium range of Raincoast Crisps, announces the launch of three skus of Raincoast Cookies. Lesley Stowe Fine Foods selected Subplot Design Inc. to create the complete packaging range for its new range of cookies. Lesley Stowe Raincoast Cookies launched to the Trade in October and are now available throughout Canada.
The Lesley Stowe Raincoast Crisps have evolved from a local sensation to national distribution as well as being available in the US via a number of distributors.
“With our Raincoast Crisps doing so well at the local, national and now US level, we saw an opportunity to develop an additional line of products that would sit within the Lesley Stowe philosophy of fine, healthy foods”, says Lesley Stowe.
The Raincoast Cookie is the newest addition to the Lesley Stowe Fine Foods family. They are baked in small batches from scratch using only the finest-quality ingredients. The 3 flavors of cookies – Dark Chocolate, Tart Cherry & Pecan; Apricot, Ginger & Slivered Almond; and Dried Cranberry & Toasted Hazelnut – are the perfect snack to grab on the go. The consumer doesn’t have to compromise nutrition for convenience. Each cookie is packed with whole grains, high fibre chicory root, flax seed and protein rich chia.
“We realized that Lesley Stowe Raincoast Crisps has defined the category of premium crackers and has built huge brand awareness in the consumer’s mind”, says Subplot Design principal and lead designer on the project, Roy White. “It was clear that any new product would need to build of that existing equity and recognition of the Raincoast Crisp, not only in name, but in the presentation of the product through the packaging.”
One of the biggest design challenges was to create a pouch that clearly displayed the cookie and would allow the richness, fullness and “yummyness” of the ingredients to be showcased to the consumer, from cranberries to chunks of ginger and pecans. After an extensive search, Lesley Stowe found a supplier that could create a pouch out of 2 laminated substrates. A clear film layer and a natural-looking, uncoated paper fibre were laminated together enabling a custom window to be laser cut to view the delicious product. The packaging colors leverage existing ones used by Lesley Stowe while tying in with the specific cookie flavors.
Subplot created the single serve pouch packaging for all 3 flavors as well as 8-pack display boxes and sales support material.
